      <image:title>What is neurofeedback?</image:title>
<image:caption>Our brains are home to millions of nerve cells called neurons, and brainwaves are electrical activity that result from these neurons communicating with each other. We can measure brainwaves by placing small electrodes on the surface of the scalp and we know that different brainwaves correspond with different psychological states. For example, when we’re asleep or drowsy our brainwaves look different from when we are awake, alert and focused. Different brainwaves are also associated with psychological symptoms such as anxiety, hyperactivity, impulsivity, inattentiveness, or drowsiness. Excessive fast waves tend to correspond with higher levels of anxiety or hyperactivity and too many slow waves indicate a drop in attention or alertness.</image:caption>

<image:title>What is neurofeedback? - How does it work?</image:title>
<image:caption>Neurofeedback training is a simple, non-invasive method that helps increase or reduce certain brainwaves by measuring brain activity in real-time and rewarding a desired brain state. Our brains naturally seek reward, so it motivates us to get to and stay in the desired state, which over time strengthens our neural pathways. We’ll attach electrodes to your scalp to allow a live measurement of your brain activity—don’t worry, it’s not painful or invasive in any way. Once you’re ready to go, you’ll play a computer simulation that offers visual and auditory feedback when your brain reaches the desired state.</image:caption>

<image:title>What is neurofeedback? - How can neurofeedback benefit me?</image:title>
<image:caption>If you struggle with symptoms such as anxiety, depressed mood, poor concentration, impulsivity, hyperactivity, fatigue, or even chronic pain - neurofeedback can help. Together, we can train your brain to better regulate your brainwaves to reduce the impact of these symptoms on your life.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About Us - Dr Melinda Hickey</image:title>
<image:caption>Clinical Psychologist and Neurofeedback Practitioner Melinda (she/her) is a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a member of The Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA). With 10 years experience as a psychologist working with a broad range of mental health concerns, her primary focus has been treatment of long-term emotional and interpersonal difficulties associated with complex trauma. Her approach is always focused on building an authentic relationship through which her clients can feel safe, validated, and supported in making the changes in their lives that uniquely suit them. Melinda has completed a PhD (Clinical Psychology) in neurofeedback treatment for Traumatic Brain Injury. In addition, she has completed Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA) approved training in neurofeedback treatment for a range of other difficulties including ADHD, depression and anxiety, trauma, chronic pain and fatigue, and peak performance. At Resonate, Melinda likes to focus on the big picture. She understands that brain activity is only one aspect of your emotional wellbeing. She is interested in who you are as a person, not just what your brain looks like, and takes an integrative approach to therapy. This means she will take your lead on what changes you’d like to see and draw on the evidence-based neuroscience, psychology, and psychosocial strategies to get you there.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Remote neurofeedback</image:title>
<image:caption>We offer remote neurofeedback using the Myndlift system - which utilises a bluetooth EEG headset to monitor your brainwaves, and an app that provides you with feedback on your brain state via games and videos. Myndlift is a therapist-guided neurofeedback approach, meaning your neurofeedback practitioner will design personalised protocols based on your needs and goals, and check in with you regularly to support your progress. Learn more about Myndlift here.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Remote neurofeedback - What’s involved?</image:title>
<image:caption>You will first meet with your neurofeedback practioner (in clinic or via telehealth) for a comprehensive assessment to determine your treatment plan. We will loan you an EEG headset to take home and download the Myndlift app to your device. Training involves putting on the EEG headset (we’ll show you how) and logging in to the Myndlift app. Your therapist will set up your training plan and you can choose from a number of games or videos which give you feedback on your brain state. You will train for approx. 20 mins a session, a few times a week. Your neurofeedback practioner will check in with you regularly to chat about your progress and make any necessary changes to your training plan.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Remote neurofeedback - Considering remote neurofeedback?</image:title>
<image:caption>Remote neurofeedback is time and cost-effective. Since you don’t have to come into the clinic, you can train more regularly and only pay a hire fee once a week. Remote neurofeedback is not appropriate for everyone. Some people may need or prefer more intensive support. We can discuss your specific needs at your initial session.</image:caption>
